By Road: The four lane
highway to San Carlos from Nogales, Arizona is well paved and easily
traveled. There is a checkpoint at kilometer 21 in the state of Sonora,
where you will be asked to show your passport or birth certificate and photo
ID, and will be required to obtain a tourist visa for each person (cost
$15.00 USD). You also need to get a temporary import permit for your vehicle.
This permit is free of charge if you acquire a Sonora Only permit instead of
a federal permit. For more information on paperwork and procedure for car

make sure you print a copy of the documentation and
procedure and keep it handy when you arrive at the Sonora Only office. If
you plan on leaving your boat in San Carlos please take the time to get a 10
year temporary import permit for your boat. This permit is also free of
charge and you'll need the following documentation:

By Plane: There are two direct flights from Phoenix, Arizona to Guaymas on Aeromexico and America West. Passports or birth certificates and photo ID are required for travel in Mexico. Taxis to San Carlos are available at the airport. Marina San Carlos is around 10 miles from Guaymas. By Boat: San Carlos Cruising
